One chilly morning after a fierce winter storm, a child was seen dancing down the beach. As the elder neared, it became clear that the child was systematically picking up one of the starfish strewn along the water's edge, and carefully tossing it into the sea. The elder said, "that's not going to make much of a difference, you know." The child paused while holding another starfish, and then said thoughtfully, "for this one it will make a difference," as it landed in the water. And just like that, each of us can be The One for someone else, and can honor someone who has been The One for us.
